Bula Pierson

A week ago Friday, Daren got a Facebook friend request from a very dear Fijian friend living in Australia whom he hasn't seen in 23 years. She met Daren back when his first name was Elder and he was companions with her baby brother also serving in Suva, Fiji. Whether it is because she is Fijian or a Breckterfield (her maiden name), she welcomed "Pierson" (the name she calls Daren) back again to her home in Australia. Daren lived with her family for four months while he lived in Australia.

Esther Breckterfield Akbal came to Utah for a family wedding last weekend. "Pierson" had to go.

What a Fijian reunion it was for Daren. He saw four former missionary companions, their wives and children, a man he baptized and several dear friends, many of whom he hasn't seen for twenty plus years.

The wedding was a full-blown customary Fijian wedding. It had entertainment the likes of which you would have to go to the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie, Hawaii.

In his patriarchal blessing, Daren was told that he would make many friends on his mission and they would be life-long friends. After this weekend, I can see that promise realized.

Moce (pronounced:moe-thay) Fiji. (Good-bye Fiji) Vanaka (Thank you) Esther for making sure "Pierson" didn't miss seeing his Fijian veiluveni! (family)
